Sims 1 deluxe edition crashes at "adjusting emotional weights"..?

well i have windows 7 and at first it used to play the sims 1 deluxe edition, but now it won't even bring up the menu. I've been playing the sims 2 on here for over a year now and it works perfectly. i even installed 3 expansion packs (and i have double deluxe btw) and have had no problems. i think the sims 1 is too old for the newer computers.
